Sponsorship Evaluation
Putting your name on a team, an event or a cause is one thing. Getting credited for it in the coverage is another. The Sponsorship Evaluation report measures whether your sponsorship generated real brand association, whether that association was prominent and positive, and what return you earned in coverage you would not otherwise have had.
What it does
The discipline here is measuring co-mention quality, not just co-mention volume. It is not enough to know your brand appeared somewhere during the property's coverage window. The report asks whether you were named as a sponsor, with prominence, in coverage that the association actually generated. It tracks items mentioning both your brand and the sponsored property, weighs how prominently you featured, from a headline mention to a brief incidental one, and estimates the incremental coverage the sponsorship contributed above the brand activity that would have existed anyway.
The questions it answers
- Did the sponsorship generate co-mention coverage at scale, and what share of the property's coverage carried our brand?
- Was the association prominent, with the brand in headlines or substantively present, or were we relegated to brief mentions?
- Was the co-mention coverage positive, and does association with this property help or hurt the brand?
- Which activation moments drove spikes, and which co-sponsors were sharing the spotlight?
- How much of this coverage was genuinely incremental, above what we would have earned regardless?
What's in the report
The report opens with a Sponsorship Footprint scoreboard covering co-mention volume and reach, co-mention as a share of both your total coverage and the property's coverage, sentiment, Tier 1 placements, explicit sponsor attribution and headline mentions. From there it measures the quality of the association:
- A Co-Mention Prominence breakdown splitting headline mentions, substantive presence and brief incidental mentions.
- A daily co-mention trajectory with activation moments flagged where volume spiked, each annotated with what appeared to drive it.
- Sentiment of co-mention coverage, outlet quality by tier, and per-platform social engagement.
- Themes in co-mention coverage, co-sponsors and other brands sharing the spotlight, and signature co-mention stories.
- A Counterfactual Estimate of the sponsorship's incremental contribution, and a Sponsorship Verdict on property-brand fit.
Where you supply a comparator, a prior sponsorship, a competitor's deal or your own prior period, the report benchmarks against it. Every statement drawn from coverage is cited back to its source.
Who it's for
This is for brand, marketing and partnerships teams who commit real budget to sponsorships and have to justify the return in coverage terms. It suits sponsorship managers reporting on a deal, brand leads weighing whether to renew, and agencies presenting results to a client who will want more than a logo-spotting tally. It is for anyone who needs to show that the partnership earned association, not just exposure.
Why Truescope Analyst
The conventional approach leans on a media value estimate and a stack of clippings where the brand happened to appear near the property, with no real test of whether you were credited as a sponsor or merely present in the same article. It is laborious, and the prominence question usually goes unasked. A general AI tool cannot attempt it, because it has no access to the coverage and cannot weigh co-mention prominence across hundreds of items. Truescope Analyst reasons across your full media dataset, isolates true co-mentions, grades how prominently you featured, estimates the incremental contribution, and benchmarks against a comparator, all in minutes. It is part of your Truescope subscription so the whole team can run it, and because every finding is cited, the verdict holds up in front of the people deciding whether to renew. The report measures media-visible co-mention only; it cannot capture in-venue signage or impressions that never generated coverage, and the counterfactual is an estimate that gets muddier if other brand activity ran in the same window.
Frequently asked questions
What period can a sponsorship evaluation cover?
It draws on up to the last 13 months of coverage in your Truescope inbox, or the last 90 days for global data not already matched to your workspace. That matters here because sponsorship campaigns often run well beyond the property's event dates.
What is the difference between co-mention volume and total brand volume?
Total brand volume is all your coverage in the period. Co-mention volume is only the items that mention both your brand and the sponsored property. The report always keeps the two separate, because conflating them would overstate what the sponsorship actually earned.
Can I benchmark against a previous deal or a competitor's sponsorship?
Yes. Supply a comparator, whether a prior sponsorship of yours, a competitor's sponsorship of a similar property, or your own prior period, and the report reports performance against it rather than in absolute terms alone.
